Day 70 Sea Swimming.

#31 of the blog.

Today was Jenny’s birthday - which also happens to be Burns Night - a celebration of the life and poetry of the ‘bard’ Robert Burns who was one of Scotland’s finest creative writers.

As I’ve come to expect with the Bathing Beau and Bluebells, if there is any excuse for a bit of dressing up then you can rest assured the team will go for it.

Jenny had given me a bit of a heads up about what this morning could entail so after I dropped my daughter off at school I quickly headed down to St Aubin to take photos of the team setting up the Scottish themed, socially distanced ‘party’ (there were 10 of us gathered which falls neatly into Jersey’s coronavirus outdoor gathering guidelines).

With tartan bunting, hats, pyjama bottoms and more the team had pretty much outdone themselves… that is of course until Jenny’s surprise bagpiper turned up in full dress and song confirming that they had then officially outdone themselves.

When the rest of the team arrived, we got dressed/undressed and headed down the beach to the battle cry of the pipes… with the tide being out this was quite a walk but thankfully we had a beautiful sunny day to keep us warm whilst we made our way out to the water.

I took a few photos and everyone bobbed about a bit - it wasn’t a day for swimming any substantial distances.

After about 10 minutes or so we got out and headed back up the beach where we were treated to haggis pasties and a hot toddy!

“Till a’ the seas gang dry, my Dear,

And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:

I will love thee still, my dear,

While the sands o’life shall run”

- Robert Burns
