Day 90 Sea Swimming.

#51 of the blog.

It was a Valentines Day special today with the Bathing Beau & Bluebells at our normal spot of St Aubin… although there was nothing particularly normal about the swim - or truth be told the members themselves ;)

The sea was absolutely pumping, with a huge swell… as big as I’ve seen down there so our normal site was a definite no-go zone (you can see the conditions from the video above).

But before worrying about all that swimming and cold water malarky, I had some photos to take as Jenny had arranged a surprise in the shape of a beautiful, red classic car which was kindly brought down by a smartly dressed Steve with Cadburys Milk Tray in hand.

The rest of the team had got the memo about the red/heart dress code and had unsurprisingly gone to town on their outfits - with Valentine’s Day accessories to match.

I took a few photos of the guys and gals in their finest whilst the moral support around me stood, wrapped up in wooly hats and winter coats, in shock and awe at the sight of these rabble of half dressed ‘crazies’ in what was a 4 degree C air temperature with 35kph southerly winds.

It’s just what we do.

With the majority of photos snapped it was into the water they went whilst I took a few more from the side lines before I put the camera down and joined them with a little love bomb of my own (second video).

Phil, a member of our Channel relay swimming team had joined us and it was him and myself who were in last… sucking up the cold for as long as we could reasonably bare it before we got out and joined the others for some delicious cakes (themed of course) and hot drinks.

We might be crazy… but then that’s what love often is too.

“Here's to the crazy ones.

The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules.

And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.

Because they change things. They push the human race forward.

And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
