Sea Swimming Blog #21
Day 60 Sea Swimming.
#21 of the blog.
I was really looking forward to today’s swim and shoot.
I had an exact photo in mind…
This wasn’t it!
The forecast was stating 0 kph winds in the afternoon so I was anticipating a glassy millpond of a pool to play with at Havre des Pas.
The only issue I could envisage was that there were very few clouds in the sky - and I was hoping for a few as I thought the reflections would look cool in the image I had in mind.
As I drove closer to HDP I suddenly realised that such amazing January weather would probably mean I wouldn’t be alone at the pool and therefore I wouldn’t be able to get the shot I was after.
And so it was, there were several people there when I arrived, including a cool guy named George who I chatted to for a while and then another group turned up ready to brave the cold.
Hey ho, I couldn’t be annoyed, it was good to see people enjoying the same thing I loved to do too.
Whilst I’ve decided on a bit of a shoot on sight policy, I thought I’d ask if this new group of arrivals minded if I took a few photos for my blog… and they were more than happy to oblige!
I just caught the first guy launching himself in… had a few more seconds to get ready for the next… a minute or so to prepare for the lady’s lovely dive, but no amount of time could have prepared me for the grand finale.
Fair play to the guy (it was cold!) and he departed from his shorts and produced some of my favourite photos of the blog so far.
Happy with what I’d shot I went in for a swim myself, a few laps back and forward across the pool then as the sun was setting grabbed the waterproof camera and snapped a couple of sunset shots (desperately trying to avoid the eyesore that is La Collette in the background).
Moral of the story is that not everything goes to plan A, but sometimes B, C or whatever you end up with can be just as good if not better.

The valiant never taste of death but once.”
