Sea Swimming Blog #3

Day 31 Sea Swimming.

#3 of the blog.

It took a while for me to realise that a) I’d fall in love with sea swimming and b) it would be something I’d love to document.

But once I did (and following a couple of trials with my normal cameras - Canon 5D MkIV & Mk III + various lenses) it struck me that there was far more to capture than what was on the surface level.

I needed to go deep.

Having researched underwater housings a while ago (a plastic, waterproof frame for my Canon cameras) I knew that these were expensive… more expensive than the cameras themselves.

So, I needed an alternative, a compact camera that would give me the protection I needed but also high enough quality to produce acceptable results… it arrived today.

Without having time to test it in normal, unsalted water, I was reluctant to put it through it’s paces but did take a couple of snaps of Will & Pete, who I’d bumped into on this beautiful sunny day down St Aubin as I was getting out of the water.

We caught up and warmed up over a coffee in the sun after their swim, walking the length of the pier, chatting about life, lockdown and artistic plans for the now and for the future.

If you look closely they’re the two little heads bobbing around between the frothy water and the fort in the second photo.
